HISD’s first-ever Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Magnet School is accepting applications for the 2012–2013 school year. Students will have the opportunity to become fluent speakers, writers, and readers of Mandarin Chinese, and will gain a multicultural perspective that will prepare them for today’s global economy.
The school is located at Gordon Elementary, 6300 Avenue B in Bellaire, and students currently enrolled at that campus are encouraged to consider this exciting new opportunity. HISD is accepting applications for students in prekindergarten to second grade. Core subjects of language arts, math, science, and social studies will be taught primarily in Mandarin Chinese, with a certain amount of English Language Development instruction incorporated each day.
Students will also have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities that highlight the Mandarin Chinese culture.
